Commonwealth Financial Network is a privately held independent broker/dealer–RIA with offices in Massachusetts and San Diego. They needed real-time visibility into firewall metrics—especially CPU usage—because CPU spikes can reveal issues unrelated to traffic volume, such as half‑duplex mismatches.

To solve this, they built a Node.js application running in a Docker container that uses Sensu to collect metrics and InfluxDB to store them. The stack provided continuous, real-time CPU monitoring of their firewall, improving detection of configuration and hardware issues and enabling faster troubleshooting.
