Case Study: CERN achieves scalable, high-performance monitoring with InfluxData

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research near Geneva, needed a time series storage solution for its Database on Demand metrics, including Collectd and WLCG data. The MONIT team was looking for automatic aggregation and strong Grafana support, and it evaluated Influxdata’s InfluxDB as a potential TSDB for CERN IT DBOD.

Influxdata’s InfluxDB pilot at CERN produced very positive feedback and was adopted as the backend for the CERN Data Centre. It also supports critical monitoring use cases, including LHC experiment systems like ALICE, where 2,000 nodes generating data at 3.4 TB/s are monitored at a 600 kHz metric rate, with metrics stored in InfluxDB after aggregation.
