5G Test Network, a 5G R&D and testing facility operated from VTT and the University of Oulu, needed a DevOps monitoring solution that could collect and analyze metrics across a heterogeneous telco environment. Their challenge was ingesting diverse time-series data from the telco core backend, routers, IoT gateways, network application endpoints (QoS at IP level), host metrics (via Telegraf), application-level custom metrics, and test execution metrics to support analytics, testing, and development.

They adopted InfluxDB as the time-series datastore, leveraging Telegraf for host monitoring and integrating with visualization tools like Grafana and Chronograf. InfluxDB’s flexible measurements and tags, open-source ecosystem, and scalability let the team quickly and easily add visual exploration of diverse time-series data into their workflows, improving analytics and test development capabilities.
