A Infinova Case Study
Shanghai Metro, China’s largest metro rail system, needed a major security upgrade to monitor huge crowds, multiple entrances and exits, and long stretches of rail infrastructure across lines 1, 2, and 3. The project called for a highly scalable, reliable system with precise camera control and a robust architecture, especially at major hubs like Shanghai’s South Railway Station, which spans over 60 hectares and can hold more than 10,000 people at a time.
Infinova delivered the solution with 59 networked matrix switchers, 70 PTZ dome cameras, over 1,400 fixed and minidome cameras, and a fiber optic backbone with transceivers. Infinova’s distributed matrix architecture eliminated a single point of failure, while the PTZ cameras and keyboard controllers enabled accurate surveillance control and patrols. The fiber network simplified installation, reduced cost and deployment time, preserved video quality over long distances, and created a foundation for future expansion.
