Case Study: Porky Products achieves full virtualization of SAP on DB2 and avoids costly flash upgrades with Infinio

A Infinio Case Study

Porky Products meets beefy I/O requirements

Porky Products, a leading independent U.S. food distributor handling over one million pounds of meat and seafood daily and employing about 200 people, runs a lean IT team of six. Their mission‑critical SAP on DB2 ERP generated such high I/O that it required a standalone IBM server with Fusion I/O PCIe cards and could not be virtualized without prohibitively expensive all‑flash investments.

After evaluating and deploying Infinio’s RAM‑centric caching in their VMware environment, Porky Products successfully virtualized SAP/DB2 while delivering equivalent user‑visible performance. The move allowed them to retire 3TB of Fusion I/O cards in favor of mirrored 800GB SAS SSDs, avoid further flash spend, simplify backups and management, boost overall IOPS capacity, extend acceleration to other apps like Exchange, and achieve sub‑millisecond cache response (about 80 microseconds).
