Case Study: Boone County Health Center achieves improved VDI performance and avoids a $65K hardware purchase with Infinio

Boone County Health Center runs faster with Infinio

Boone County Health Center, a regional hospital serving multiple counties in eastern Nebraska, relies on virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) for most staff to access EMR, reports and email. Each morning a major “boot storm” saw about 140 users logging in and storage latency spike from typical 1–3 ms to 17–18 ms, causing slow or locked desktops that delayed patient care; the IT team was exploring a $65,000 all‑flash array but wanted a less disruptive alternative.

The center deployed Infinio Accelerator with a brief install on four VMware ESXi hosts and kept its existing NetApp storage. Infinio offloaded roughly 90% of I/O, eliminated boot storms and latency spikes, cut “slow” support calls by about 90%, extended the life of existing storage, avoided the $65,000 hardware purchase, and noticeably improved the end‑user VDI experience.
