IFOM, The FIRC Institute for Molecular Oncology, a cancer research institute focused on molecular cancer genomics, needed a faster and more reliable storage platform to handle rapidly growing functional genomics and sequencing data. Its existing DDN Lustre-based system was slow, unreliable, and not optimized for the high-performance, concurrent access required by researchers. Infinidat was selected to help address these challenges with its InfiniBox storage solution.

IFOM implemented Infinidat’s InfiniBox F4260 with 1PB of net physical capacity, connected to its computational cluster via NFS. After a successful one-month proof of concept, the solution was deployed smoothly and delivered major gains: researchers achieved data access times about 10 times faster than before, along with 99.99999% availability and improved pipeline stability. Infinidat also positioned the platform for future non-disruptive upgrades and disaster recovery with InfiniSync.
