HGC Deploys Mobile Fronthaul Services in Hong Kong with Infinera Mobile Fronthaul Solutions

Hutchison Global Communications Limited (HGC) wanted to launch a new wholesale mobile fronthaul service in Hong Kong to support growing 3G and 4G traffic and prepare for 5G and Cloud-RAN architectures. To meet the demanding CPRI transport requirements, HGC selected Infinera’s XTM Series Mobile Fronthaul Solution, part of Infinera’s Intelligent Transport Network portfolio, for high-capacity, low-latency optical WDM fronthaul.

Infinera implemented the XTM Series active Mobile Fronthaul Solution, which supports CPRI and OBSAI rates up to 12 Gb/s and delivers ultra-low latency, strong synchronization, low power consumption, and high density. The deployment helped HGC launch one of the first commercially available mobile fronthaul services in Hong Kong, including support for 3 Hong Kong, and gave operators a scalable path to LTE-Advanced/4.5G and 5G while improving RAN performance and reducing operating costs.
