100 Gb/S Ready Backbone Network for Malaysian Carrier’s Carrier

Fiberail, a regional carrier’s carrier in Malaysia, needed to upgrade its backbone network across the country to support initial 10 Gb/s services while being ready for a future move to 100 Gb/s. The network also had to carry alien wavelengths over third-party equipment and provide end-to-end SLA monitoring, so Fiberail worked with Infinera and its TM-Series packet-optical platform to meet both immediate and long-term requirements.

Infinera implemented the EMXP220 IIe packet-optical transport switch with ROADMs and Transport Network Manager, enabling Fiberail to aggregate 10 Gb/s traffic, monitor services end to end, and later upgrade to 100 Gb/s by simply adding CFP optics to existing units. The result was a cost-efficient, scalable, and resilient Ethernet network that delivered a straightforward path from 10 Gb/s to 100 Gb/s without needing new traffic units or additional rack space.
