A inet logistics Case Study
OMV, a leading Central European oil and gas group, faced growing complexity in cross-border tank-wagon transport—about 80,000 wagon movements a year—where manual planning and fragmented national rail systems made tracking locations, contents and maintenance compliance impossible. To address these challenges OMV engaged inet logistics and selected their Container Management IT solution to centralize and automate tank wagon inventory and planning.
inet logistics implemented the Container Management system within months, integrating four national rail systems (Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary) to import data centrally and enable real-time tracking, content visibility, lead-time recording and a traffic-light alert for overdue wagons. The solution reduced the need for reserve rental wagons, streamlined maintenance scheduling and compliance (with automated service alerts), and gave OMV full documentation to demonstrate contractual adherence, significantly improving planning efficiency and wagon utilization.
