UL Lafayette centralizes 4,172 solar field tags with Inductive Automation

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette's Louisiana Regional Test Center (LA RTC) faced a significant challenge in managing data from its large, diverse solar field. With numerous incompatible devices and systems, their previous solution lacked interoperability and offered limited, non-customizable visualization, hindering research and maintenance. To overcome this, they partnered with vendor Inductive Automation to implement its Ignition platform.

Inductive Automation's Ignition provided a centralized SCADA system that unified all data into a single MySQL database. The solution enabled real-time data collection every six seconds, intuitive visualization with custom KPIs, and crucial scalability for future expansion. This resulted in improved maintenance response times and the powerful ability to visually demonstrate the magnitude of the lab's research achievements to the public.
