Case Study: EDF Power Solutions achieves flexible urban microgrid control with Inductive Automation's Ignition-based SCADA

A Inductive Automation Case Study

Preview of the EDF Power Solutions Case Study

EDF Power Solutions powers a 20 MWh urban microgrid with Inductive Automation

The customer, EDF Power Solutions, faced the challenge of constructing and managing its first urban microgrid, a complex project requiring a high-availability SCADA solution for real-time control, data visualization, and the ability to disconnect from the main grid. They partnered with vendor Inductive Automation, whose Ignition platform was used by Contel Smart Energy to build the Energynie energy management system framework.

The solution implemented using Inductive Automation's Ignition provided a flexible, scalable platform that enabled monitoring, control, and scheduling for the microgrid. This allowed EDF Power Solutions to successfully accomplish "value stacking," including energy shifting, reducing grid congestion, and providing energy independence for a school campus. The Ignition-based solution offers a foundation for future expansion and integration, ensuring operational continuity and the flexibility to adapt to changing energy demands.
