Indium Software helped a leading data-centric security provider in the San Francisco Bay area strengthen QA for its big data security product. The customer needed a way to test the product across multiple big data environments, including Hive, Impala, SparkQL, Cassandra, and HAWQ, but faced the challenge of generating and managing millions of test queries across many use cases such as joins, subqueries, and case-when logic.

Indium Software addressed this by building an R-based automated query generation solution using combinatorial algorithms inspired by Apriori. The module could take any data model as input and generate meaningful, non-trivial queries for one or all use cases, making QA 10X faster, comprehensive, and easy to replicate across deployments. The solution also reduced effort for version updates, as Indium Software’s code and sample query sets could be reused with minimal changes.
