The Texas Department of Transportation wanted to improve safety on Texas highways by providing WiFi hotspots at rest areas for travelers and truck drivers, but many sites were remote with no cable Internet and required a fully managed, reliable service with reporting and analytics. Indio Networks was engaged to deliver a managed WiFi hotspot solution using satellite broadband and 4G LTE backhaul along with centralized management and reporting.

Indio Networks deployed hotspots in 50 rest areas, centrally configuring, monitoring and delivering daily reports to TxDOT officials; connectivity was provided via satellite or 4G LTE. The project has operated successfully for 10 years, serves over 1 million travelers annually, improved rest area usage and online reviews, and has coincided with reduced accident rates on Texas highways.
