Honolulu International Airport - Customer Case Study

Honolulu International Airport, the State of Hawaii’s largest airport serving over 21 million passengers annually, needed a fast, reliable, and monetizable WiFi service across three terminals and large common areas while integrating with existing network hardware and supporting high-density traffic. Local operator ShakaNet engaged Indio Networks to provide a managed hotspot solution—using Indio Networks’ WiFiLAN OSS/BSS and a mobile-optimized captive portal—to meet requirements for performance, 24x7 support, and equitable bandwidth division.

Indio Networks implemented WiFiLAN OSS/BSS and a PCI/DSS-compliant captive portal with Authorize.Net payment integration, live monitoring and remote troubleshooting, and full BYOD support and controller integration, managing hundreds of APs across the terminals. The deployment handled about 50,000 passengers daily, maintained ~99% WiFi uptime, generated over $300K in revenue through WiFi monetization, and delivered noticeably improved passenger satisfaction and positive online reviews.
