Delhi Metro - Customer Case Study

Delhi Metro (DMRC), which serves around 2.76 million passengers daily, needed to offer public Wi‑Fi across its network while leveraging an existing Cisco infrastructure. The challenge was to deploy a secure, TRAI‑compliant Wi‑Fi service in a complex VLAN and high‑density environment with limited on‑site access windows, enforce SMS/OTP user verification and per‑user fair‑usage, track browsing history, and manage bandwidth and monetization options. Indio Networks was engaged to deliver the solution using its UniBox access controller and WiFiLAN OSS/BSS.

Indio Networks deployed UniBox on VMs integrated with the central WLC and remote APs, providing a branded captive portal, SMS/OTP login and per‑user session tracking, bandwidth throttling, policy enforcement, reporting/analytics and monetization (ads, vouchers, billing). The deployment enabled remote monitoring and troubleshooting, improved coverage and high‑density support, and can scale to tens of thousands of concurrent logins and millions of users per day; Indio Networks’ solution also reduced OpEx/CapEx, lowered network fault calls, ensured TRAI compliance and simplified management for DMRC.
