College of Engineering, Pune cuts unwanted bandwidth consumption drastically with Indio Networks

The College of Engineering, Pune (COEP), a major autonomous engineering institute, faced challenges managing its high-density wireless network for over 2,500 students and 200 staff. Their existing Cisco infrastructure was incapable of providing user identity verification, bandwidth control, and tracking of activity. COEP needed an all-in-one controller solution to integrate with their existing network and control access. They selected a solution from vendor Indio Networks to address these requirements.

Indio Networks implemented its UniBox solution, which provided a customized captive portal, integrated AAA server, and bandwidth management. The solution enabled user verification via student MIS numbers, enforced daily bandwidth quotas, and filtered unwanted content and P2P traffic. This resulted in a drastic reduction in unwanted bandwidth consumption, improved browsing speeds for users, and automated the registration process for the IT team. The vendor's solution successfully enhanced the security, manageability, and overall usability of COEP's WiFi network.
