Cognizant, a multinational IT systems integrator, was presented with a challenge by its client, a large U.S. real estate data provider, to automate the complex task of extracting data from 40 million unstructured mortgage title and deed documents published annually across thousands of counties. The existing manual process was resource-intensive and slow, and traditional OCR tools were inadequate due to the vast number of document layout variations. Cognizant sought a solution to significantly reduce processing costs and accelerate data delivery for its client.

Cognizant implemented the Indico Intelligent Process Automation (IPA) Platform. Using its proprietary transfer learning approach, the platform enabled non-technical subject matter experts to quickly build a highly accurate custom model with just 200 sample documents. The Indico solution provided field-level automation that augmented human reviewers, leading to a 40% reduction in annual processing costs, translating to millions of dollars in savings for the client.
