Case Study: Bohemia Interactive cuts satellite terrain processing from 8 hours to 40 minutes with Incredibuild

A Incredibuild Case Study

Preview of the Bohemia Interactive Case Study

Enhancing productivity and shortening turnaround time by grid-enabling the processing of satellite imagery

Bohemia Interactive, the studio behind ArmA, was struggling with very long satellite-imagery processing times that made terrain editing and fine-tuning slow and inefficient. Converting 3 GB of 1 m‑resolution imagery for a 20×20 km world spent about 8 hours largely on texture compression, so Bohemia turned to Incredibuild (using its Automatic Interception/distributed build capabilities) to parallelize the image‑to‑texture conversion across existing workstations.

By adapting the world builder to return texture placeholders, adding a /P_NOWAIT flag and a simple process‑count guard, Bohemia used Incredibuild to transparently distribute conversion tasks across the network; the change was implemented by one programmer in roughly three days. With Incredibuild the terrain processing time fell from about 8 hours to roughly 40 minutes (≈12× faster), showing near‑linear scaling as more workstations are added and dramatically improving iteration speed.
