A Incapsula Case Study
eToro is a social trading platform with more than 2.75 million users in over 140 countries that lets people trade currencies, commodities and stocks and follow other traders. In July 2014 eToro was hit by a massive DDoS attack that took down its trading systems across a full C‑class of IPs, creating connectivity problems with its ISP and forcing the company to seek an immediate, subnet‑wide defense against both volumetric/direct‑to‑IP and application‑level attacks.
eToro engaged Imperva Incapsula’s Infrastructure Protection service, which used BGP routing to divert traffic to global scrubbing centers (with GRE tunneling to forward legitimate traffic) and deployed always‑on website protection for HTTP/HTTPS filtering. Within 30 minutes traffic was being inspected and filtered, subsequent attacks were mitigated transparently with zero business disruption, and eToro gained comprehensive, resilient DDoS coverage, fast on‑demand activation and 24x7 managed support.
