A Imprivata Case Study
WCA Hospital, a 317-bed non-profit acute care hospital in Jamestown, N.Y., faced a mandate to comply with New York’s I-STOP and DEA EPCS requirements while also tackling long pharmacy wait times, handwriting errors, dual prescribing workflows, and low provider satisfaction. The hospital’s goals were to improve patient safety and experience, eliminate duplicate prescribing steps, and boost clinical and provider efficiency.
WCA implemented Imprivata Confirm ID for EPCS—using fingerprint biometrics and smartphone soft tokens plus streamlined enrollment events—integrated directly into the e-prescribing workflow. Within the first month post-launch e-prescribing for non-controlled meds rose 23%, Meaningful Use e-prescribing climbed from 44.2% to 50.4%, and 28% of controlled substances were prescribed electronically, driving higher patient and provider satisfaction, better safety, and greater clinical efficiency.
