Havenziekenhuis is a 260‑bed specialist hospital in Rotterdam focused on tropical medicine, travel diseases and elderly care with over 500 staff. Needing to meet NEN 7510 authentication rules while supporting mobile clinicians, the hospital found its previous desktop login and app startup times (about 90 seconds) slowed workflows and risked delays in patient care.

The hospital deployed Citrix XenDesktop (with Provisioning Services), Citrix NetScaler Gateway VPX, Imprivata OneSign, OMNIKEY card readers and SafeNet SMS tokens on a six‑server HP backend managed with Novell ZENworks. The result: consistently fast, secure logins (7–10 seconds), 100+ concurrent virtual desktops, improved patient privacy and safety, easier desktop management, and secure remote and cross‑platform access for clinicians.
