Saving valueable time with Single Sign-On and advanced authentication

Boulder Community Hospital, an early MEDITECH 6.0 adopter, faced slow EMR adoption and workflow bottlenecks: nurses were spending about an hour per shift logging in and out of applications, and unattended workstations posed HIPAA risks. With a major PCS (patient care system) go‑live planned, the hospital needed a way to speed clinician access and secure desktops to ensure successful electronic documentation adoption.

BCH implemented Imprivata OneSign single sign‑on with badge readers (deployed by Forward Advantage), letting clinicians tap to authenticate once and move between workstations without repeated password entry. The change boosted EMR usage, saved nurses roughly an hour per day, improved workstation security and HIPAA compliance, and is being expanded across inpatient areas and clinics.
