A Imprivata Case Study
Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), Oregon’s only academic health center with two hospitals and a medical school serving over one million annual visitors, faced a paper-based controlled-substance prescribing process that increased patient trips and wait times, created workflow inefficiencies for clinicians who split time between care, research, and teaching, and raised the risk of prescription fraud.
OHSU implemented Imprivata Confirm ID for electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS), integrated with Epic, to provide identity proofing, supervised enrollment, and two-factor authentication via a soft token. The change streamlined prescribing into a single secure workflow, reduced patient wait times and paper prescriptions, improved provider efficiency, and substantially reduced prescription errors and fraud.
