A Imprivata Case Study
The City of Marietta, GA — a suburb of Atlanta with about 57,000 residents providing a full range of municipal and public safety services — faced a pressing compliance challenge: the FBI’s CJIS mandate required advanced (two‑factor) authentication for officers accessing national crime databases from unsecure locations like patrol cars. With a looming deadline, short deployment timeframe, widely varying use cases across departments, and a needed culture shift in authentication processes, the city needed a rapid, flexible solution that wouldn’t disrupt operations.
Marietta deployed Imprivata OneSign to meet CJIS requirements and streamline access citywide: two‑factor RFID badges and card readers were rolled into patrol units, and OneSign’s single sign‑on (No Click Access™) was implemented on most of the city’s ~760 PCs. The result was demonstrated CJIS compliance ahead of the deadline, centralized authentication policy management, improved officer workflows (continuous CAD visibility in patrol cars), faster application access, reduced password‑related help‑desk calls, and ongoing expansion of SSO across departments.
