Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs two major hospitals, maternity services and community clinics across the county, faced lengthy and complex clinician logins—sometimes up to 30 minutes—multiple user IDs, frequent timeouts, ransomware risk, and a heavy IT management burden across thousands of devices. These issues hindered Emergency Department workflows and slowed adoption of the Trust’s electronic patient record (EPR).

The Trust deployed a “Follow Me Desktop” combining Imprivata SSO/MFA, Citrix and IGEL OS to provide badge‑tap roaming, a locked-down read‑only endpoint, and centralised management. The result was dramatically faster logins and wider EPR/EPMA adoption, stronger endpoint security, fewer support calls, and simpler IT administration as the solution rolled out across wards, theatres and 1,400 IGEL devices.
