Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - Customer Case Study

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Addenbrooke’s Hospital and serves about 500,000 local residents, employs roughly 7,000 people with some 5,000 requiring IT access. Staff had eight to ten different credentials and strict password policies that required frequent changes, causing frequent application lockouts, disrupted clinical workflows and around 30% of helpdesk calls to be password resets.

The Trust piloted and then rolled out Imprivata OneSign single sign-on with SMARTCARD support and Carefx Fusionfx clinical context management, automatically capturing and presenting credentials and linking applications. The solution cut password entries and reset calls dramatically, reduced a typical workflow from 29 steps to 9 (automating about two‑thirds), streamlined user workflows and increased clinical productivity.
