Bridging the gap between IT and providers to enhance care

Chilton Memorial Hospital, a 1,000-employee nonprofit in northwestern New Jersey using MEDITECH, faced strong provider resistance to moving from paper to electronic records. Clinicians were frustrated by having to log in and out of multiple applications dozens of times a day, forcing IT to balance strict security requirements with the need for fast, convenient access at the bedside.

Chilton implemented Imprivata OneSign SSO alongside MEDITECH after close collaboration between IT and clinical staff, phasing the rollout and training super-users. In under a year 1,400 clinicians and staff accessed 84 applications via SSO; with 70,000 MEDITECH log‑ons weekly and a conservative 2‑second saving per log‑on, the hospital estimates about 39 clinician hours saved each week. The change streamlined workflows, cut password-related support calls, improved provider satisfaction, and helped strike a practical balance between security and convenience.
