A Imperva Case Study
Brock University, a mid-sized Canadian university undergoing a migration from a proprietary mainframe database to Microsoft SQL Server and .Net-based web applications, needed to secure a large portfolio of custom, frequently revised web apps and thousands of users while keeping development cycles short and IT overhead low. With concern about data breaches and limited resources for manual tuning, the university sought an automated solution that would protect frontend applications and backend databases without impacting performance.
Brock deployed Imperva SecureSphere (two Database Security Gateways with an integrated Web Application Firewall in active/passive mode, plus a lab span-port unit) to provide dynamic profiling, database activity monitoring and real-time blocking. The implementation required little tuning, detected and alerted on suspicious activity that could have led to a breach, protected high volumes of custom apps and users end‑to‑end, and helped shorten development/QA cycles without adding operational burden.
