Keystone RV Stops a Large‑Scale DDoS Attack with Imperva Incapsula

Keystone RV, an Indiana‑based leader in North America’s recreational vehicle market, had its corporate website and a dealer portal for 10,000 dealers knocked offline in August 2011 by a massive, unexplained DDoS (SYN flood). The attack overwhelmed the hosting provider—traffic and bandwidth spiked more than 100x—and adding servers and bandwidth failed to stop the outage.

Keystone redirected traffic through Imperva Incapsula within two hours, and Incapsula’s cloud network absorbed and mitigated the SYN flood and subsequent follow‑on attacks while SOC engineers helped tune protections (including geo‑restrictions). Keystone also enabled Incapsula’s WAF to block web application attacks (SQL injection, XSS), gained alerting and dashboard visibility, and achieved ongoing protection without adding internal staff or costly infrastructure.
