Healthcare Network Bolsters Web Defenses and Prevents Automated Application Attacks with Imperva

A non-profit regional healthcare delivery network in the southwestern United States — including hospitals, medical groups and an insurance plan — needed accurate, non-intrusive web application protection to secure patient-facing and legacy systems, meet PCI requirement 6.6, and stop automated scanners and bots without disrupting uptime.

They deployed Imperva SecureSphere (initially as a sniffer, later inline in bridge mode with redundant appliances and MX management) and added ThreatRadar reputation services. The solution virtually patched legacy apps, dropped malicious traffic before it reached servers, and blocked hundreds of attacks weekly—reducing patient-directed spam by about 40 messages per day, meeting compliance, and substantially lowering the risk of a costly data breach.
