Funda Prevents Lead Scraping and Abuse

Funda, the Netherlands’ largest property portal (about 200,000 listings and 30 million monthly visitors), was repeatedly targeted by sophisticated web scrapers and lead‑harvesting services that threatened its relationships with brokers and its market-data authority. Its combination of legal action and a homegrown IP‑blocking solution proved inadequate against distributed botnets, competitor scraping and analytics pollution.

Funda deployed Imperva, integrating virtual appliances with F5 load balancers and AWS/CloudFront, to monitor traffic and then proactively block automated browsers and known abusive organizations. The solution stopped or reduced lead scraping and competitor abuse, cleaned analytics so product decisions and a site redesign are based on real user behavior, and produced forensic data useful for legal protection and stakeholder confidence.
