Betfred & Imperva Prevent Account Takeover

Betfred, the UK’s fourth-largest bookmaker with over 1,650 shops and a rapidly growing digital platform, was being overwhelmed by sophisticated bot activity—up to 87% of traffic on some domains—frequent brute-force credential‑stuffing attacks (as many as 30 per month), aggressive odds scraping, and sustained backend strain that threatened downtime and tied up IT/security resources.

Betfred deployed Imperva Bot Management (using CAPTCHA and connection dropping) with a quick AWS/CDN integration. The result: page requests roughly halved (from ~40M to 15–20M/day), brute‑force attacks dropped to two short‑lived attempts and were mitigated in seconds, backend CPU use fell from ~40% to ~3–4%, unauthorized scraping stopped, peak‑event downtime was prevented, and the security team regained time for other priorities.
