Imperative

A Imperative Case Study
Boston Scientific, a global medical technology company with 34,000 employees in more than 40 countries, wanted to strengthen psychological safety, inclusion, and innovation across its highly technical manufacturing teams. HR Director Kari Murphy had already tried traditional courses and coaching, but needed a more scalable way to drive sustained behavior change and help employees build self-awareness, trust, and stronger collaboration.
Boston Scientific implemented Imperative’s peer coaching platform for managers and later expanded it to more of the manufacturing team in Maple Grove, MN. Imperative paired employees for bi-weekly guided coaching conversations, and the results were strong: 99% of employees found the experience helpful, very helpful, or breakthrough, and 84% of committed actions were completed. Participants reported better trust, more powerful conversations, improved active listening, and greater engagement, while some used the experience to challenge biases, build credibility, and share more constructive feedback.
