Wates, one of the UK’s largest family-owned construction services and development companies, partnered with Impact International to strengthen leadership capability in its middle managers and future leaders. The challenge was to balance technical training with key leadership competencies already agreed by the Wates board, while ensuring the programme was practical and directly linked to business results.

Impact International designed the “Developing Leadership Skills” programme, a two-part leadership development solution featuring a five-day residential in the Lake District followed by a “Moving Forward” module 6–8 months later. The programme included experiential projects, MBTI personality profiling, coaching for performance, and board presentations of real-world business projects; it has run successfully for seven years, reaches around 40 managers annually, and has helped move a number of projects into implementation, adding value to the Group.
