Barclays UK Retail Banking partnered with Impact International to address high external recruitment costs and limited internal promotion opportunities for middle managers. The business needed to close leadership skill gaps, build a stronger talent pipeline, and help technically strong managers become ready for more senior roles through an Emerging Leaders Programme.
Impact International designed and delivered a modular, experiential Emerging Leaders Programme combining launch sessions, leadership and team-working development, residential learning, mentoring, and workplace support. The programme improved day-to-day leadership performance, with 97% of participants reporting better team productivity, 92% reporting higher team engagement, and 100% integrating the learning into daily work. Most notably, internal promotions rose from 62% of opportunities being filled externally to 62% being filled internally, and the programme’s cost was offset by savings in external recruitment.
