A iMotions Case Study
Loyola University Chicago sought to provide its undergraduate students with hands-on experience in quantitative research, moving beyond theoretical learning to practical application. The challenge was to equip students with the tools to conduct their own biometric studies without the need for extensive, expensive hardware. To achieve this, the university utilized iMotions Education software in a course on User Experience and Biometrics.
Using iMotions Education and later the more advanced iMotions Lab platform, students were able to design studies, collect data via webcams, and analyze eye-tracking and facial expression metrics. This solution empowered a group of students to conduct original research on the effects of profanity in video lectures, which was subsequently accepted and presented at the prestigious Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS). The project was named a Top 25% Paper at the conference, demonstrating how iMotions enabled undergraduates to make a meaningful research contribution and gain an uncommon immersive learning experience.
