How the NHS used Immersive Labs to upskill 500 of their specialist cybersecurity staff

NHS Digital needed to reduce cybersecurity risk across the health and care sector, quickly upskill hundreds of dispersed cybersecurity staff, and ensure the NHS was prepared and protected against cyber-attack. To meet this challenge it deployed access to Immersive Labs’ cloud-based, browser-accessible cybersecurity e-learning platform, offering intelligence-led, hands-on labs and adaptive learning for security teams.

Immersive Labs delivered 24/7 practical training through its simulated labs (three‑year licences provided via the NHS Digital/IBM partnership), enabling immediate, continuous learning. Within eight months 500 specialist staff had carried out over 300 hours of training and completed more than 14,000 labs and modules (the first lab was completed within one hour), giving staff skills in areas such as ethical hacking, malware analysis and incident response and helping to reduce cyber risk across the NHS.
