County Court of Victoria Goes Electronic to Boost Efficiency

The County Court of Victoria, which serves nearly six million people from a Melbourne courthouse and 13 regional Circuit Courts across a 92,000 sq. mile territory, faced major logistical problems from paper-based case files. Judges based in Melbourne often could not access files held at circuit registries, relying on couriers that created security risks, misplaced or incomplete files, case adjournments and wasted time and money.

Partnering with IT operator Interform, the Court implemented iManage Work to create electronic case files viewable by judges and staff from any device; after a successful pilot it was deployed to all 13 registries. The digital system removed the need for physical transport, enabled instant document insertion, version control and comprehensive audit trails, and delivered measurable gains in security, efficiency and productivity.
