Larch Lane Advisors, a fund of hedge funds, launched the Rothschild Larch Lane Alternatives Fund in July 2014 and needed a way to manage the different rules that apply to a ’40 Act liquid alternatives fund. The firm had already been using Imagine Software’s investment risk management software, but its existing tools were built for monthly, position-level hedge fund oversight rather than daily liquidity, compliance, and regulatory monitoring.

Imagine Software worked with Larch Lane for about eight months to build a dashboard on top of its existing system that tracks regulated investment company and ’40 Act requirements on a daily basis. The solution aggregates positions from the hedge funds, tests trades against limits, and alerts managers when a fund is approaching or breaching a limit; Larch Lane said the result was the first tool of its kind to combine traditional investment risk management with the ’40 Act regulatory requirement.
