Bringing 138 Years of Tradition into a 21st Century Digital Workplace

The Ontario Medical Association (OMA), founded in 1880 and serving more than 40,000 physicians across the province, faced a classic legacy challenge: a Web 1.0 intranet from 1998, siloed communication, and a multigenerational workforce with different tech needs. Internal communications and knowledge sharing were inconsistent, so the OMA concluded it needed a full digital workplace overhaul rather than incremental fixes to connect employees and support cross-functional collaboration.

The OMA selected Igloo after an RFP and proof-of-concept, launched a playful soft rollout and then shifted from tightly controlled publishing to empowering staff to create content. The new platform centralized information, boosted engagement (e.g., a “Throwback Thursday” archive blog and a National Pet Day post that drew 1,500 views among 280 employees), and delivered measurable impact: nearly 70% of employees reported being satisfied or very satisfied and used the site weekly. The intranet now serves as a single source during operational changes, modernizes technology and culture, and helps staff better support Ontario physicians.
