A IGEL Case Study
TU Graz’s Institute for Molecular Biotechnology (IMBT) needed a low‑maintenance, UNIX‑compatible lab environment to improve bioinformatics teaching while cutting IT costs and support overhead. To meet these requirements the university evaluated several vendors and chose IGEL, deploying IGEL UD6‑LX thin clients alongside a Cendio ThinLinc server (CentOS).
IGEL implemented the solution by rolling out UD6‑LX thin clients across the bioinformatics computer lab (connecting some 60–80 units to the ThinLinc server), delivering centrally managed, server‑based workstations. The deployment enabled smooth full‑screen video playback at 30 fps, a silent, space‑saving classroom, simplified administration and reduced maintenance and virus exposure, and measurable uptake with 60 clients active on the central server to date.
