A IGEL Case Study
Statens Vegvesen, the Norwegian agency responsible for national road design, construction and maintenance (about 7,000 employees, 72 traffic stations and five regions), needed to replace aging Windows terminals with a stable, cost‑effective thin client platform that could run their customer-facing web application and offer strong central management. They selected IGEL, deploying IGEL UD3 LX thin clients and IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS) to meet those requirements.
IGEL implemented a rollout of roughly 650–700 UD3 LX thin clients (deployed across 66 sites in just over two months) and configured the web app to run directly on the clients, avoiding Citrix/Microsoft terminal server licenses. Using IGEL UMS for centralized control and shadowing, Statens Vegvesen gained fast boot times, improved stability, fewer support cases, minimal hardware faults, and measurable savings of about 1 million NOK per year in license fees—demonstrating significant cost and operational benefits from IGEL’s solution.
