A IGEL Case Study
City of Corona, California faced growing risks from on‑premises desktop infrastructure — including wildfire and earthquake vulnerability, poor scalability, and difficult endpoint management — and needed a way to maintain business continuity and enable large‑scale remote work. To address this, the city adopted IGEL (using IGEL OS and IGEL UD Pocket) alongside Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and Microsoft Windows Virtual Desktop hosted in Azure.
IGEL’s thin‑client approach let the city repurpose existing hardware, rapidly deploy secure cloud workspaces, and spin up virtual desktops within minutes using the IGEL UD Pocket. The IGEL solution reduced IT management overhead and energy and OpEx costs, improved endpoint security and remote printing, quickly mobilized the workforce during COVID‑19, kept essential services running, and helped prevent furloughs and layoffs.
