Case Study: Saskatchewan Polytechnic achieves simplified, secure, lower-cost end-user computing with IGEL

A IGEL Case Study

Saskatchewan Polytechnic - Customer Case Study

Saskatchewan Polytechnic faced the challenge of securely managing a large end‑user computing environment — 3,200 endpoints in 200 computer laboratories across four campuses serving more than 16,000 students — while moving to a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). To support this transition and simplify administration, the institution selected IGEL and deployed IGEL OS along with the IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS) as its thin‑client platform.

IGEL converted existing Dell PCs into Linux‑based managed endpoints and, together with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops on clustered Cisco UCS servers (VMware vSphere), enabled rapid campus‑wide rollout (about 2,000 IGEL OS licenses; each lab converted in 30 minutes or less). The IGEL solution centralized management for a five‑person EUC team, delivered VDI boot and app access in under a minute, locked down endpoints for stronger security, reduced helpdesk tickets and extended device life — saving Saskatchewan Polytechnic approximately CAD $1 million over five years.
