A IGEL Case Study
Ontario Regional Hospital faced an urgent IT modernization challenge: thousands of aging Windows 7 desktops and notebooks that couldn’t run Windows 10, poor network access on patient floors and in the emergency room, and slowing systems that reduced time for direct patient care. Replacement hardware was cost‑prohibitive and the hospital required integration with critical apps like Imprivata and Skype for Business, so the hospital engaged IGEL to evaluate options and deliver a secure, affordable virtual desktop strategy.
IGEL implemented a VDI approach, converting existing endpoints to IGEL OS and deploying IGEL Universal Management Suite and IGEL UD/OD tools to centrally manage devices. The solution eliminated the need for wholesale hardware refresh, delivered native Imprivata and Skype for Business support, and enabled secure access anywhere. Measurable impacts include average upfront hardware savings of $1,200 per user, a drop in administration from a 5–6 person team to one person (less than half a work week), faster access to clinical apps and EMRs, and improved patient care and user experience.
