Nederlandse Vereniging van Banken - Customer Case Study

The Nederlandse Vereniging van Banken (NVB), the Dutch Banking Association with about 56 employees, faced slow boot times, poor audio/video support and difficult management of Windows XP–based thin clients after migrating to a cloud environment. Needing a cost-efficient, easy-to-manage replacement, they selected IGEL and its software tools, notably IGEL Universal Desktop Converter 2 (UDC2) and the IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS).

IGEL converted roughly 60 existing desktops into Linux-based thin clients using UDC2 and centralized management with UMS, completing the rollout in about two months. The IGEL solution cut boot times from 4 to 1.5 minutes, improved performance and screen refresh, greatly reduced client-management effort, and delivered major cost savings (UDC2 licenses ≈ €60 vs ≈ €600 for new hardware) while extending hardware life and lowering depreciation.
