A IGEL Case Study
Millard Public Schools, a K–12 district in Omaha, needed a secure, cost-effective way to deliver graphics‑intensive CAD applications to students via Citrix virtual desktops. The district turned to IGEL and its IGEL UD Pocket micro client to meet performance, management and security requirements for CAD classrooms.
IGEL deployed the UD Pocket to convert existing 64‑bit x86 PCs into IGEL OS endpoints, backed by NVIDIA M10 GPUs on the server side, and locked down as Linux‑based endpoints to prevent downloads or tampering. The IGEL solution cut boot times (about 30s vs. 90s), eliminated spinning‑drive failures and malware exposure, simplified management, and extended device life—growing from an initial 30 machines to 210 across seven CAD classrooms while delivering measurable CAPEX savings and a robust graphics experience.
