Case Study: Lineas halves service calls and centralizes virtual desktops with IGEL thin clients

A IGEL Case Study

Lineas - Customer Case Study

Lineas, the largest private rail freight operator in Europe headquartered in Belgium (>2,100 employees, >1,000 desktops/laptops), faced a need to centralize and simplify desktop management within a Citrix environment after their on-site IT partner could no longer manage station workstations. They required a low‑management, low‑cost, flexible and bulletproof solution that would support 24/7 operations and specialist applications. IGEL was engaged to address this challenge using thin clients and its management software.

IGEL delivered a solution based on UD7 thin clients (150 units deployed after a successful 50‑workstation proof of concept) running Citrix on the IGEL OS and managed via the IGEL Universal Management Suite. The deployment gave users instant, Windows‑like virtual desktops with single sign‑on and multi‑monitor support, enabled remote troubleshooting and fast hardware swap‑outs, and cut service calls by roughly 50%, while reducing purchase and ongoing management costs and increasing operational flexibility.
