A IGEL Case Study
ICT NML, the joint technology and communications service provider owned by the four Dutch municipalities of Roermond, Venlo, Weert and Nederweert, needed to refresh its entire end-user computing estate of more than 2,400 endpoints, replace out-of-date zero clients and enable multi‑protocol support for a fast, staged migration with no downtime. To meet these challenges they selected IGEL, deploying IGEL OS, UD3 multimedia endpoints and IGEL Cloud Gateway as part of a wider €9 million infrastructure programme.
IGEL implemented a rollout of UD3 endpoints and IGEL OS (including UMS for centralized management and Cloud Gateway for offsite devices), converted 150 laptops to IGEL, and integrated with VMware Horizon on Dell EMC hardware. The deployment replaced 2,400 legacy clients, supports around 2,000 concurrent VDI users, was completed in four months with no user downtime, and delivered centralized desktop control, automated firmware updates, safer SaaS access and simplified day‑to‑day maintenance — freeing up staff time and reducing operational complexity.
